Wynnum Bowls Club Receive Funding to Take Climate Action

Joan Pease MP2023-07-23

Wynnum Bowls Club is one of sixty-eight community groups and organisations from across Queensland that will receive a funding boost from the Queensland Government to help them take climate action.

Key Points:

  • Sixty-eight community groups in Queensland will receive over $3.4 million in funding from the Queensland Government to support climate action projects.

  • Grants of up to $100,000 will help these groups install renewable energy systems, such as solar panels and batteries, and energy-efficient items like lighting and hot water systems.

  • The funding reflects the growing priority placed on climate change action, and the Queensland Government is committed to increasing renewable energy use to 80% by 2035 through a $62 billion energy and jobs plan.

The groups will share in more than $3.4 million in funding through the Queensland Government’s Community Sustainability Action grant program for projects that help them to reduce emissions and energy costs and build local resilience. This latest round of funding is providing grants of up to $100,000 that will assist community groups to purchase and install renewable energy systems, such as solar panels and batteries, and energy efficient replacement items, including lighting, whitegoods, and hot water systems. One of this year’s successful recipients is our Bayside’s very own Wynnum Bowls Club, which will receive $31,304 to purchase and install a solar system and inverter for their club, which will significantly reduce their carbon emissions and energy costs. The overwhelming interest shown by community groups in this grant round points to the priority Queenslanders now place on taking climate change action. Our Bayside community groups do such incredible work on the ground and it’s great to see funding go towards projects that can help them reduce their costs as well as their emissions. The Queensland Government is committed to taking action on climate change and increasing renewable energy use in our state to 80 per cent by 2035. Our $62 billion energy and jobs plan will deliver cheaper, cleaner power as we move to net zero emissions, and I am proud to support community groups that want to realise that future.
