Visy Opens State-of-the-art Packaging Facility in our Bayside

Visy has officially unveiled its brand-new $150 million corrugated packaging factory located in Hemmant.

Key Points:

  • Visy has opened a new corrugated packaging facility in Hemmant

  • The facility will produce 100% recycled cardboard boxes

  • Part of a $700 million investment in Queensland by Visy

This state-of-the-art facility promises to produce a staggering 1 million boxes every day, setting a benchmark for advanced manufacturing in the region. Each of these boxes will be crafted from 100% recycled paper, sourced directly from Visy’s Gibson Island recycling facility and paper mill. This initiative not only emphasizes the company's commitment to sustainability but also supports Queensland's food and beverage sectors, as well as local farmers and growers. I was delighted to recently attend the inauguration of this fantastic advanced manufacturing hub. Visy's commitment signifies the importance and potential of this facility in bolstering Queensland's economy.During its construction phase, the project provided jobs to 300 individuals. Now, as the facility swings into full operation, it is set to generate over 100 'green collar' employment opportunities, fostering sustainable and responsible growth. What makes this launch even more significant is the uniqueness of this facility. Brisbane hasn't seen an industrial setup of this kind, positioning the factory as a key player in Queensland's economic expansion. This venture is just one part of Visy’s $700 million investment in Queensland, aimed at amplifying recycling and advanced manufacturing prowess. Other noteworthy undertakings within this investment package include a new glass recycling facility in Stapylton and a $48 million upgraded recovery center at Gibson Island. Not only is this a significant boost to Queensland’s circular economy, but it has been a fantastic injection to the local economy and workforce. I am so proud to be part of a Government that’s investing in a vast range of industries.
