Tingalpa State School will receive a share in the $2.2 million (including GST) Tennis in State Schools Initiative (TISSI).

Key Points:

  • I visited Tingalpa State School with Education Minister Di Farmer recently to announce the successful recipients of the latest Tennis in Schools initiative.

  • Tennis in State Schools Initiative is a $2.2 program to improve tennis facilities at Queensland Schools.

The TISSI is a collaboration between the Department of Education and Tennis Queensland, with the support of Tennis Australia, to encourage state school students to lead active and healthy lifestyles through improved participation in the sport of tennis. The initiative is a co-funding arrangement with a total $2.2 million budget (including GST) across the 2022, 2023 and 2024 calendar years. The total project budget is $39,600 (excluding GST) and is comprised of a 25 per cent contribution from Tennis Queensland, 50 per cent from the Department, and 25 per cent from the school. These funds will refurbish the tennis court including resurfacing, line marking, and a new net and posts. Delivering a fully refurbished tennis court will provide local students with a modern surface where they can develop their skills in a safe environment. Sports like tennis have an unparalleled ability to change young lives for the better, which is why we’re investing right here at Tingalpa State School. Our partnership with Tennis Queensland is another example of how the Miles Government is working with sporting bodies to unlock the next generations, Ash Barty.
