Recently, the Queensland Government made a significant step towards achieving reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by announcing a Path to Treaty process, so I took the opportunity to inform Baysiders at my Path to Treaty information evening.
Organised in conjunction with our Bayside’s very own Aunty Becky Thomson, Chairperson of Winnam Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation, Baysiders had the opportunity to hear from the Hon Craig Crawford MP, Minister for Seniors and Disability Services and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, in addition to the voices of Indigenous Elders and Members of the Interim Truth and Treaty Body. It was a great opportunity to learn more about what the Queensland Path to Treaty means for our Bayside and State, and for Baysiders ask questions about the process. The Path to Treaty process will be complex and challenging, but I am committed to working in partnership with Indigenous peoples to ensure that the process is meaningful and effective. The Path to Treaty process is not an endpoint but a means to achieving greater justice, equity, and reconciliation and I hope that as a Bayside, we can take this important journey together.
