Free Flu Vaccines for Queenslanders

Joan Pease MP2023-07-24

From 22 July to 31 August 2023, influenza (flu) vaccinations will be provided free of charge to help combat the significant increase in influenza cases across the state.

Key Points:

  • Free flu vaccinations for all Queenslanders from 2 July to 31 August 2023.

  • Vaccination is crucial to reduce flu risk and protect vulnerable groups.

  • Get vaccinated at local GP, clinic, or pharmacy to safeguard community health

This initiative aims to safeguard our community's health and reduce the risk of flu infections. Influenza is a highly contagious infection that can make many people sick and, in severe cases, lead to fatalities. Hospitalisations due to influenza are especially concerning for children aged 6 months to 5 years and adults over 65 years, as well as those at higher risk. Vaccination is a crucial step in preventing the spread of the virus and protecting vulnerable populations. As we approach the peak of the flu season (June - September), it's essential to act promptly. Baysiders can get vaccinated at their local General Practitioner (GP), community health clinic, or pharmacy. The flu vaccine is recommended for anyone over the age of 6 months, ensuring widespread protection for all age groups. Vaccination is our best defense against the flu virus. By getting vaccinated, you not only protect yourself but also contribute to stopping the infection from spreading to others. Encouraging children and adults at higher risk to receive the flu vaccine plays a crucial role in safeguarding our entire community. If you have any concerns or questions about the vaccination, don't hesitate to consult your GP. Qualified health staff are ready to address your inquiries and provide you with the necessary information. You can also call 13 HEALTH on 13 43 25 84 to speak to a healthcare professional. I urge Baysiders to share this vital announcement with family, friends, and colleagues. The more people who get vaccinated, the stronger our community's defense against the flu is. (Note: For specific vaccination locations and further details, please visit your local GP, community health clinic, or pharmacy. Information is subject to change based on the latest health guidelines and updates.)
