The Queensland Government is fast-tracking $25 million in community sport and active recreation infrastructure funding for not-for-profit clubs and local councils.
Round two of the popular $15 million Minor Infrastructure Fund will open on 27 September 2023, along with a $10 million round of the Inclusive Facilities Fund. The $10 million Inclusive Facilities Fund supports the construction of inclusive and accessible projects such as female-friendly changerooms and amenities. Applications are being opened earlier by the Government because of the overwhelming popularity of the Minor Infrastructure Fund’s first round. The first Minor Infrastructure round invested in 91 projects, from softball diamond upgrades at Currumbin and field lighting for Rockhampton hockey, to lawn bowls shade structures in Weipa. New funding under the $15 million Minor Infrastructure Program will be available for smaller shovel-ready sporting and active recreation projects including playing field and court upgrades, lighting, ramps and pathways and fixed outdoor exercise equipment. Part of the Activate! Queensland 2019-2029 Action Plan, both programs are designed to support infrastructure that opens new options for Queenslanders to stay active and healthy.
